Pilates
Training
Pilates
was originally created by Joseph Pilates in the early
20th century as a rehabilitative modality in hospitals.
Joseph combined Eastern modes of exercise such as Yoga
and Tai Chi with Western practices such as aerobics
and weight training. The exercises promote balance,
flexibility, and deep core abdominal strength. Breathing
techniques further work to stabilize the spine and align
the posture. The beauty of Pilates is that it integrates
the entire body, lengthens and tones without building
bulk. It can help people with low back pain or simply
act as a compliment to an athlete’s sport. Joseph
Pilates believed that since the mind built the body,
training the physical in this way sharpens the mental
acumen as well.
The Pilates method of training allows the body to be
lengthened as well as strengthened. This results in
a more streamline, toned, shapely and balanced body.
